Gamehaven (MN) and Gateway Area (WI) Councils deliver Scouting programs to the youth of our community. For over a century, Scouting programs have worked to prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law.
Some Scouting families face financial barriers that may otherwise prevent them from being able to have the richest Scouting experience. Uniforms, Scouting handbooks, and Scouting activities all have reasonable fees but they do add up quickly for families.
This fall, a Lewiston family that faced financial obstacles was concerned that they would not be able to afford their son's Scouting expenses. Because of support from the United Way, this Scout was now able to receive need based scholarship support, and he now has a brand new handbook and uniform. He is able to fit in with his fellow Scouts, complete adventures, learn new things, and proudly display his achievements. The family attends and participates in Scouting together, allowing the entire family to benefit from the one scholarship.
Between the two councils, scholarships helped over 35 families ease or eliminate the fees for uniforms, camps, and equipment by over $3,000.
